Up to 360,000 winter items were delivered by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to asylum seekers in Greece.

Between October 2016 and January 2017, UNHCR with more than 10 partners distributed winter items to refugees and migrants in mainland Greece and seven islands (Chios, Kastelorizo, Kos, Leros, Lesvos, Rhodes and Samos).

The items delivered included blankets, sleeping bags, winter jackets, long-sleeved tops, turtlenecks, rain ponchos, shoes, leggings, socks and beanies. Winter clothing was donated by fashion companies Zara, UNIQLO, Falke and YoungONE, while UNHCR provided the shoes.

The distribution took place with the support of the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid.
