UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, donated on Wednesday, 18 January, IT equipment and sports educational material to the Primary and Secondary School of Lagkadikia, Primary School of Profitis and 67th Primary School of Thessaloniki as part of the ongoing effort to support refugee and local communities in Greece . Among the items donated were 12 PCs, 6 laptops, 5 projectors, 1 interactive whiteboard and 10 audio recorders, donated with the support of the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid and European Commission – Migration and Home Affairs.
The Head of UNCHR Office in Thessaloniki, Sabine Waehning highlighted the importance of organizing joint activities for Greek and refugee children. “UNHCR will be always glad to support such activities”, she said while handing over the equipment.
All Principals and Deputy Principals of the schools thanked UNHCR and expressed their strong will to continue the cooperation in joint activities which will be to the benefit of all children, irrespective of their nationality. Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture at the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Eli Chrysidou, who was also present, stressed the importance of the cooperation between authorities, institutions and organizations for the improvement of the conditions for refugee children.
