Refugees have great ideas on how to improve life in camps. After all, they are best placed to identify their needs and wishes. The refugee initiatives empower refugees in becoming more independent and alleviate the impact of the current situation on men and women, youths and children.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with the support of the European Commission, offers the assistance they need in order to make these ideas come true.
In 30 camps across Greece, over 70 activities took place as of mid-2016. Among them arts and music, sports, social activities and educational activities that resulted to libraries and community schools.
More than 12,000 people participated freely and benefited from activities that inspired and united communities across Greece.
